I found your web site that brought back some memories,I hung out with the S/A Gaylords back in the mid 70s.those nights in winnemac park ,out on Damen ave.one night I remember we piled 27 of us in my van it was one that did not have any side windows and I had a curtain up front so people could be in the back and no one could tell ,we all had sweaters on and were looking to take some. we were driving down North ave. when we got pulled over by the cops.they came up to the van and could not believe it when 27 of us came out all with sweaters on they had us all lined up with are hands against the wall on North ave in the freezing cold and other gangs were driving by checking us out.it was funny watching the expressions of other gangs drive by looking at 27 sweaters lined up.the cops let us go after a while.just another day.I ended up moving in 1982 to CA. I have a good job now and nice house. but I still miss those times on S/A

I JUST READ LORDS OF LAWNDALE FOR THE 6TH TIME.ITS SEEM THAT THE MORE I REREAD IT THE MORE I UNDERSTAND HOW CRAZY THE TIMES ON LAWNDALE BECAME. THE FIRST TIME I READ THE BOOK I THOUGH THAT GUYS WERE JUST BRICKING CAR THAT DROVE THROUGH. I NOW UNDERSTAND THAT THESE GUY WERE ACTUALLY CHECKING EVER CAR GOING DOWN FULLERTON. THE GAYLORDS ON FULLERTON SETUP A ROAD BLOCK. I COULD SEE GAYLORDS WALKING DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE MAIN STREET CHECKING EVERY CAR AS IT WAS STUCK IN TRAFFIC. IMAGINE 2 GAYLORDS WITH BRICKS IN BOTH HANDS WALKING UP TO EACH CAR AND CHECKING THE GUYS IN IT.MAN I BET A LOT OF LATINOIS WERE DRIVING ALL THE WAY AROUND THIS PART OF FULLERTON.THERE WAS A MENTION OF IN THE EARLY DAY OF THEM ATTACKING THE CTA BUSES.THEY WOULD ALSO WAIT BEFORE SCHOOL AND TRY TO CUT OFF THE EMEMIES ROUTES TO AVOID THEM.TALKING ABOUT HATE CRIMES TODAY. THESE GUYS SHOULD ALL BE IN PRISON.DAM THEY EVEN BOARDED BUSES AND CHECKED THE LATINOS.I RECALL THE GANGSTERS HAD TO WAIT AT SCHOOL UNTILL THEY HAD 60 OR MORE GUYS JUST TO GO HOME.THE GAYLORDS MIGHT OF NOT STOPPED THERE EXPANSION BUT THEY SURE THE BUT THE FEAR OF GOD IN THEM.GOD BLESS THE GAYLORDS THEY SAVED MANY WHITE KIDS LIVES AND PROTECTED THEM WHILE THEY WERE GOING TO SCHOOL.NEVER KNEW WHEN THEM NASTY GAYLORDS MIGHT SHOW UP AND EQUAL THE ODDS FOR SOME POOR WHITEBOY COMING HOME FROM SCHOOL.
